Art of Gemma

I currently reside and teach on the peaceful and picturesque Isles of Scilly, where I made a move seven years ago to continue my teaching career and further challenge myself as an artist. The breathtaking natural landscapes and the captivating light on the islands continue to fuel my passion and inspire my artwork.

As a lifelong learner, my recent focus and aspiration have been to publish my first children's book. This project has been incredibly rewarding and exciting, and I am eagerly looking forward to creating more books in this series. To enhance my skills and knowledge in this endeavor, I have completed courses with the London Art College, which have not only helped me develop a new style in my portfolio but also taught me the art of producing and structuring picture books.

In my previous experiences living and teaching in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Shanghai, China, I had the privilege of traveling throughout Asia. These journeys greatly influenced my artistic development, with the tropical landscapes and vibrant colors serving as constant sources of inspiration. The awe and wonder I felt in those moments became integral to expressing myself in my artwork. Experimentation and bold, abstract use of color became my signature style.

 

Throughout my teaching career, I take pride in instilling confidence and promoting freedom of expression in all my students. I firmly believe in the benefits and significance of art, and my teaching philosophy revolves around creating a joyful and supportive environment that enables my students to be their best selves.

I have also had the opportunity to work closely with adults, assisting them in using art to enhance their well-being. Additionally, I offer painting workshops, painting parties, and private tuition, which allow me to engage with and inspire individuals in their artistic journeys.
